TRUTH & EQUITY CINCINNATI
This place-based initiative convened a cross-sector coalition representing healthcare, arts and culture, academia, education, and philanthropy to engage in a process of truth-telling and narrative change, power building, and systems change. Inspired by truth and reconciliation efforts across the world, the project: 1) deepened understanding of the measurable impacts of structural racism, 2) facilitated racial healing and cross-sector collaboration to advance practice, program, and policy change; and 3) built political will to promote racial justice and equity throughout the Greater Cincinnati region.
Community Engagement
CHANGING NARRATIVES ON GUN VIOLENCE
Recognizing that narratives influence the way we understand and respond to social challenges — and that voices with lived experience are often excluded from the shaping of those narratives — we partnered with a community-based organization to establish a Community Advisory Board (CAB) and craft a community narrative to reframe how people think about the root causes of gun violence in Washington, DC.
America's Truth: Cincinnati is a feature-length documentary exploring how structural racism harmed four Black communities in the Greater Cincinnati Region and the ways that community leaders are working to create more equitable outcomes today. The film led to a historic apology by Cincinnati's mayor and city council.
